Massive Texas Truck Wreck Closes Highway 287 Near Childress Texas
U.S. 287 between Memphis and Childress, Texas was closed due to a massive wreck involving six tractor trailer trucks and four vehicles. The wreck was due to the high winds which were blowing dust clouds over the highway, dramatically reducing visibility. The Southbound lanes of 287 were diverted as officials struggled to clear the truck wreck. No information is available about the status of the drivers or passengers of those involved in the wreck.

I-40 18-Wheeler Semi Truck Wreck Takes One Life
Dangerous conditions Saturday along I-40 from Amarillo to Tucumcari lead to an I-40 semi-truck wreck which took the life of a Tucumcari woman and the rescued puppy she was transporting. The truck wreck occurred when the woman slid off the road into oncoming traffic, hitting a tractor trailer. The semi then hit another vehicle, pinning it to the median barrier. Both the semi-truck and the passenger vehicle caught fire, according to the New Mexico State police. I-40 near Tucumcari was shut down for six hours as crews worked to sand and salt the payment.

Texas 18-Wheeler Semi Truck Wreck Hurts Four
Texas officials continue to investigate a semi-truck wreck on Interstate 79 in Texas. The tractor trailer wreck occurred when the driver of the semi rammed into the vehicle in front of it, leading to a chain reaction of cars hitting each other. The driver of the semi-truck told officials he didn't see the car in front of him. Hazardous material crews were brought to the scene to clean up.

18-Wheeler Accident Hurts Semi-Truck Driver Closes Highway 36 Near Abilene
Texas Highway 36 was closed after a terrible 18-wheeler accident involving a pickup truck and a tractor trailer. The driver of the 18-wheeler was trapped in the cab until officials could free the driver. The wreck occurred when the 18-wheeler semi truck hit the pickup from behind. Both drivers were taken to the hospital.

Heavier 18-Wheeler Semi-Trucks Could Be Coming to Texas Roadways
Congress is in the process of deciding if they should pass the Safe and Efficient Transportation Act. The act if passed would raise the weight for commercial trucks on the roadways to 97,000 pounds, up from the current 80,000 pound limit. People in favor of the bill argue it would ultimately keep prices lower for consumers. Those against the bill argue that heavier trucks would severely damage roads and bridges and compromise the safety of other drivers. Driving safety is a concern as it would take heavier trucks 25 percent more room to stop. In 2010 in Texas alone, 448 people were killed in crashes involving commercial vehicles.
Texas State Parks Get Over One Million In Donations
Since December, the Texas Parks and Wildfire Department has appealed for donations to help rebound from the 2011 wildfire season. Donations to the state parks topped the one million dollar mark. Officials continue to request donations to help keep state parks open throughout Texas.

I-40 Truck Wreck In Albuquerque Hurts Two
Officials continue to investigate a 18-wheeler semi-truck accident on the I-40 near Albuquerque involving three semi-trucks. The wreck which occurred early Wednesday morning sent two people to the hospital. I-40 was partially shut down while officials investigated the tractor trailer wreck.

Federal Government Giving Texas Money To Help Wildfire Recovery
Many residents affected by the wildfire in 2011 are breathing a collective sigh of relief after being notified that the federal government is giving Texas 31 million to help with recovery from the worst wildfire season in the state's history. According to officials, most of the money will be going to Bastrop County near Austin, Texas.

Energy Company Agrees To Pay Half A Million Dollar Fine For Natural Gas Explosion
An Ohio Energy company has agreed to a massive half a million dollar fine following a 2010 natural gas explosion which hurt seven people. The company has agreed to take more precautions under the agreement with the state. The public utility commission in 2010 blamed the energy company for not following procedure when it turned service back on. Additionally the energy company failed to properly investigate resident's complaints of a strong gas smell, which resulted in the explosion which injured seven people.
I-40 Wreck Leads To Death Of Canyon Man
The wreck which occurred on the I-40 Thursday night has taking the life of a Canyon, Texas man. Officials say a Ford Mustang jumped the highway's center median and struck the pickup in the westbound lanes. One of the victims of the accident was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital.
Highway 60 Grass Fire Cause 18 Car Wreck
A grass fire is the cause of an eighteen car wreck along U.S. Highway 60 on Thursday afternoon. Four people were taking to the hospital with minor injuries, however no serious injuries were reported. According to officials, firefighters were battling three grass fires when cars began to drive through the smoke and hit each other.

Amarillo City Commission Looking To Ban Texting Completely
The Amarillo City Commission is looking at banning texting completely. The Amarillo traffic commission voted to recommend that a ban be placed on all text messaging in city limits. On Wednesday only one person objected to the proposed ban.
Driver of Semi-Truck Cited For I-40 18-Wheeler Wreck
A driver of an 18-wheeler semi-truck which caused a massive wreck on the I-40 was issued tickets for unsafe operation of a vehicle and failure to exercise due care. The driver of the semi-truck was also cited for brake and tire violations. The semi-truck was carrying 38 horses, three of the horses died due to the semi-truck wreck.

Tractor Trailer Truck Kills Man Near Childress Texas
Officials continue to investigate the 18-wheeler semi-truck wreck near Childress, Texas, which took the life of a 74 year old man. The accident occurred when a tractor trailer truck struck a man kneeling outside his vehicle Monday morning. The driver of the big rig told the police he didn't realize the vehicle had stopped in front of him, and as he tried to avoid it he struck the man on the side of the road. As of Monday evening, no charges had been filed.

Potter And Randall County Spend 1.1 Million On Wildfires
Officials in Potter and Randall counties are entering 2012 with a higher sense of nervousness as 2011 was a costly year fighting wildfires. The two counties combined spent over 1.1 million dollars fighting wildfires in 2011. Both counties are in need of equipment and trucks as well as repairs to their existing equipment.
Local departments usually rely on grants from the Texas Forest Service, but due to the economic crisis much of that stopped when state lawmakers cut the budget. Around 340 wildfires did around 15.6 million in damage to land and property in the two counties in 2011.
Officials with the Texas Forest Service say that any additional grant money won't become available until later in the summer. The agency has 7 million in grants for 2012, but the money is marked for training and firefighting clothing not new trucks and rigs.
