Officials Conducting More Surprise Inspections
One day after a driver was involved in a wreck with a commercial truck, hauling rocks, troopers were increasing inspections off highway 380 where hundreds of rock and gravel haulers head into the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. Many commercial trucks weigh about 80,000 pounds and overweight trucks cause potholes and dangerous blowouts. Troopers have found violations so serious that several trucks were taking out of service. Mechanical problems included tires without tread, leaking tires, malfunctioning brakes and non-working lights. Many of these could lead to serious traffic wrecks and fatalities and officials believe the increased inspections will help.
