Paxil May Increase Risk of Birth Defects in Pregnant
Women
The FDA recently reviewed a 2005 study done by GlaxoSmithKlinePLC and is now warning that the medication could cause a range of birth defects. While the medication hasn't been totally banned for pregnant women it has been upped from a Class C to a Class D meaning there is evidence to suggest the drug poses a known risk to unborn children. According to GSK's own research women taking Paxil during the first trimester of pregnancy were almost twice as likely to have a baby with atrial or ventricular defects. Paxil is an anti-depressant.
