Volunteer Fire Departments Depend On Grants For Funding
Wildfires which raged uncontrollably this last spring have dried up the state's reserve money for volunteer firefighters. The budget cuts which the Texas Forest Service have gone through have basically shut down the grants which the Texas Forest Service could give to volunteer fire departments. Still volunteer fire departments apply for grants knowing there is no money right now, but hoping should something change, they will be on top of the list.

Bastrop County Wildfire Expected to Kill 1.5 Million Trees
The Massively devastating wildfires in Bastrop County which destroyed more than 1,500 homes last month has also brought a loss of more than 1.5 million trees. According to the Texas Forest Service more than 16,200 acres of pine forest burned in the wildfires last month. Trees which are expected to die from the wildfire are worth more than 14 million in terms of timber cost in tons.

Central Texas Wildfire Forces Evacuation
Residents near Bastrop Texas have been forced to evacuate as firefighters were battling a wildfire in the same county where last month's wildfires destroyed over 1,500 homes. The wildfire which is in a heavily forested area has burned over 1000 acres as of Tuesday. The weather should help firefighters in the battling of the wildfire as cooler temperatures are expected.

Massive Drought In Texas Expected To Last Through 2012
The massive drought in Texas which has lead to financial losses in the hundreds of millions is expected to last at least another year if not longer. According to experts, Texas is prone to long term drought based on current weather patterns. Because of La Nina the drought has a 25% chance of lasting up to five years. This year's drought is estimated to have cost Texas over 5 billion dollars.
