Depuy Orthopedics Recalls Hip Replacement Implant
Depuy Orthopaedics a unit of Johnson & Johnson has recalled two of its hip implants. The units recalled are the ASR XL Acetabular System a socket used in traditional hip replacement and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System, a partial hip replacement. The recalled was issued after the FDA has received numerous complaints involving patients who had received these devices. According to one New York times report about 12 to 13 % of patients needed a second hip replacement within five years after receiving an ASR implant.
