What is Malignant Mesothelioma
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine malignant mesothelioma is a cancerous tumor of the lining of the lung and chest cavity (pleura) or lining of the abdomen that is typically due to long-term asbestos exposure.
Causes
- Long term exposure to asbestos is the biggest risk factor.

Groups Affected
Groups the most at risk are workers who have had long term exposure to asbestos including
- Electricians
- Insulation workers

Symptoms
Some of the symptoms of malignant mesothelioma are
- Abdominal bloating
- Abdominal pain
- Chest pain
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Weight loss.
Treatment
Mesotheliomas are very hard to diagnose and very difficult to treat. Often early symptoms are ignored until the cancer has significantly advanced. Usually there is no cure unless the disease is found extremely early. Chemotherapy or radiation may be used to reduce symptoms.
